    Зырянско-русский и русско-зырянский словарь (St Petersburg: Imperial Academy of Sciences press, 1850), Russian-Zyrian part, p. 368

Archaeological or primary source · P. I. Savvaitov; scan at Internet Archive (Yudin Collection copy) · 1850

Russian-Zyrian part, p. 368: "Пельмень, с. пелјнјанј; пелјнјэнј Л." (Savvaitov's own Zyrian orthography; = пельнянь, with a dialect variant marked Л.), and on a later page "Пермень, с. - пельмень". (Savvaitov's own Zyrian orthography; = пельнянь, with a dialect variant marked Л.), and on a later page "Пермень, с. - пельмень". Read on the page scan (leaf n381); the OCR text garbles the Zyrian letters. A gloss only: it proves the Komi word in 1850, not a description of the dish.

Archaeological or primary source · V. I. Dal; scan at Internet Archive · 1865

First edition, part 3 (letter П), title page dated Moscow 1865; p. 23: "Пельмень м. пельмени, пельняни, ушки, млрс. колд(т)уны зап. (пермяцк. или вогульск. пель, ухо; нянь, хлѣбъ) родъ варениковъ, начиненыхъ мясомъ; иногда рыбой, капустой, грибами, рѣдькой." This pins the year of the Dal entry already recorded above (same wording as the booksite.ru transcription). It attributes the etymon to the Permyak (or Vogul) language; it does not describe Permyaks eating the dish.

Strong identity: the dish, the Komi-Permyak name and the people.

Ties the etymon to Permyak (Komi-Permyak) or Vogul (Mansi), not to Zyrian Komi or Udmurt. The page is an undated transcription; which edition (1863-66, 1880-82 or later) was NOT verified.

Dated text · N. Rogov, reported by V. M. Yanovich · before 1903 (Rogov; year not stated by Yanovich)

Quoted by Yanovich 1903, p. 53, as a description "уже Роговымъ" from an edition that was by then "почти библіографическая рѣдкость": "Пельняни дѣлаются изъ очень небольшихъ, круглыхъ, яичныхъ сочней и свиного,… Quoted by Yanovich 1903, p. 53, as a description "уже Роговымъ" from an edition that was by then "почти библіографическая рѣдкость": "Пельняни дѣлаются изъ очень небольшихъ, круглыхъ, яичныхъ сочней и свиного, разведенаго водой, фарша. Сочень перегибается и защипывается по краямъ ... форма ... схожую съ ухомъ человѣка. Для употребленія пельняни варятся въ водѣ ... ѣдятъ руками, безъ уксуса". Yanovich gives neither title nor year for Rogov's text (N. Rogov published on the Permyaks in the 1850s-60s; the exact work was not identified or opened). If located, this would be the earliest description of Komi-Permyak pelnyan.

Quotes the Komi-Permyak-Russian dictionary (Batalova & Krivoshchekova-Gantman, Moscow 1985): "пельнянь кöрыш" (dumpling wrappers), "пельнянь дар" (dumpling ladle). Also quotes E. Avdeeva 1837 on Siberian (Russian) pelmeni. The author's dating rests on Russian surnames and route history, so it is recorded as S, not as the dish's date.
